A large number of people from Yass made the pilgrimage to Sydney at the weekend for the 2014 Sun-Herald City2Surf. The Tribune spoke to a number of locals about the experience and the general consensus was that the day was both fun and challenging. There were groups like Bernadette Collins, Tina Cassidy, Irene Reid and Vicki Green, who were training three times a week leading up to it and then there were groups like Val Hanrahan and her birthday entourage. Val was turning 80, so her friends decided the City2Surf was the best way to celebrate. Bernadette encourages others to join her running group on Saturday mornings by the river, call her at the Wellness Centre on 6226 6426 for more information. You can also join Yass Runners on Monday nights at 6.15 at Riverbank Park.

Ault stays 'Green'
On Sunday I participated in my sixth City2Surf 14km event. My recorded time of 1hr 26min and 28 sec's was about as good as I expected to perform on the day. This time will allow me to stay in the 'Green' group for next year - inside 90 minutes! Over the years that I have participated in this event, I find that this group runs at my pace and I can pick my path without being held up by slower participants. My weekly run with Yass Runners has undoubtedly helped me stay on a planned pace and given me the opportunity to exercise with the company of others. My previous times have varied from 1:36:41 in 2008 to 1:24:45 in 2010.
I have also participated and completed in seven half marathons - including Sydney, and Run Y'Ass Off. Following the relatively easy completion of this year's City2Surf, I have decided to enter the 30km option of the ACT's Stromlo Running Festival on November 16 and hope to complete the course within four hours. This event is one of the pre-qualifiers for the Six Foot Track Marathon that is held on March 14, 2015 - which will be just a couple of days after my 60th birthday. This will be a new event for me to enter. Started in 1984, the Six Foot Track is a 45 km trail stretching across the Blue Mountains from The Explorer's Marked Tree, near Katoomba to Jenolan Caves.
